    Feuerwehr Insignia

Decal Description

Regulations governing the wear of helmet insignia on Fire Fighting (Feuerwehr) and Fire Protection Police (Feuerschutzpolizie) helmets evolved over the course of several years.  The actual dates and type of insignia are described in the table below.  In addition, many World War I pattern helmets and light-weight “Austrian” style helmets were privately manufactured and used in 1934 (and after) but prior to the introduction of the M1934 light weight "Edelstahl" helmet.  These helmets often bore stamped metal emblems that included a combination of the tricolored national decal and a mobile swastika.  In addition, some early helmets bore a stamped metal swastika centered in a circle. Although the numbers are small, a few helmets have also been observed bearing hand painted insignia.
